Wings Secure Playoff Berth, On 6 Game Win Streak
The Wichita Wings have officially secured a berth in the '23 Major Arena Soccer League 2 championship weekend. After capping off a 6 game win streak with a weekend sweep in Colorado, the Wings cannot finish worse than a wildcard berth for the final playoff spot.
This weekend, the last of the regular season, will be an exciting one with all 3 of the MASL2 Conference(s) Champions yet to be determined. What is for certain, is that the playoffs will include 2 Midwest Conference teams, both the Amarillo Bombers and the Wichita Wings. One as a conference winner and the other will receive the leagues lone wildcard position.
This week, Wichita will travel to the United Wireless Arena in Dodge City, KS, on Sunday March 26th, knowing that they need a win accompanied by an Amarillo Bombers loss to see Wichita win the conference.
Amarillo, who plays at Colorado on Saturday March 25th, can clinch the conference title with a win against the Inferno.
Major Arena Soccer League 2 will be part of a unique weekend -- in conjunction with the MASL Mesquite Outlaws-- as the Texas team’s home venue will host M2’s Championship Weekend.
M2 owners unanimously approved the playoff set up which will see games Friday March 31 and Saturday, April 1, at Mesquite Arena where the MASL held it’s first ever player combine last fall. The finals will be part of a unique pro indoor soccer “tripleheader” at the Outlaws home building.
The four teams that will qualify for M2’s post-season include the top finishing team in the North, Midwest and West divisions and the best second-place finisher among the remaining teams. Division winners will be decided
Friday’s semifinals will start at 12 noon and 3 p.m. CDT, with Saturday’s third place game set to kickoff at 11:30 a.m. and the M2 championship game at 2 p.m. CDT prior to the Outlaws regularly scheduled home game against the Empire Strykers that evening.
Mesquite is coached by former Wing and indoor soccer icon, Tatu.
All four games will be streamed live by M2, details of which will be announced as final plans are worked out with Mesquite and the league.
“We will work hard to make it a memorable weekend for all the M2 teams and welcome them to our home,” said Tatu. “It will be fun to host such premium games, and look forward to a great Championship weekend experience for everyone.”
