To my beloved fans:
I want to thank you for the last few years of support. Not only supporting me, but also the team. You all have been the best fans. When the Wings were down, you had our backs. When the Wings were up, you had our backs. Win or lose, you all were there. I remember when the Wings were down, before we would make a comeback, I’d look into the stands and see the cheering. I would see the excitement and hope. I would see the passion. It was contagious. Contagious not only for myself, but for the team as well. Speaking for my teammates, and the whole organization, we credit those wins to you all.
I want you all to understand, without you, there is no “us”. Therefore, in my mind, you are a part of us. So, it is only fair to provide a formal letter as I have done with my teammates. I am announcing my retirement from indoor soccer for the foreseeable future.
I promise this decision has not come without heartache, as soccer has been my love for as long as I can remember. That love of playing a larger stage has definitely come from you all. The atmosphere you all provide is second-to-none and I could not ask for a better support system.
To my rowdy Hooligans that stood behind my goal every game. Your jokes, your words of encouragement, and incredible banter will be missed immensely.
After speaking with the Wichita Wings Organization, they have graciously agreed to have me on the coaching staff for this year. I know I would not be able to stay away from the infectiousness that is Wichita Wings indoor soccer. So, I’ll be around.
I consider you all friends and I hope to see you all again this season, as you cheer on our Wichita Wings. See you soon!
Thankful for you all,
Steven “The Hammer” Hamersky
